Long Overdue Meme – Per Dawn

I am slightly embarrassed to say that when I read Dawn’s last structured meme and she tagged four people to respond, it didn’t occur to me to scroll over each “YOU” to see who she was referring to.  I thought it was a cute way of getting everyone who read her blog to follow suit and do the meme themselves.  Duh.  I tell you, I’m living with only one functioning brain cell – and even it flickers in and out like a shorted lightbulb at times.  But here I am at last, ready to give my first and long overdue meme a shot.  Hopefully my bulb won’t go out mid-meme.  HA!

Ha! Okay. First of all, it was a pretty indirect way for me to tag people. :) So no worries. Only Jenny picked up on it before you did.

Second, I am having a MAJOR lapse of memory. Did you work at the same Albertson’s as me? Because for the life of me, I CANNOT REMEMBER THIS. What is wrong with me??? Did I convince you to take that job? Did I scar you for life? What havoc have I wrought???

Finally. I am so happy to find out all about your lovely third child! Did you ever tell us if you’re having daughter no. 3 or son no. 1?

Okay, now, finally for real: Nice new blog! I too get bored, oh so bored, of things too easily and am always changing things up. I think it’s because stuff like blogs and templates can’t contain our ever-growing creativity and intelligence.

    Love ya!

Dawn, thank you for your encouraging words, and thanks also for the WORST job I ever had!!! HA! Yes, I worked at the same Alberton’s you did (Thousand Oaks, right?). I needed a part-time job when I moved in with Erica and Belinda my last semester of college, and I applied there where you worked. YOU seemed to always enjoy the job, so I thought, “It can’t be too bad. Let’s give it a try” You worked a different shift than me, but every once in a while we worked the booth together. What was our boss’s name? Robert? He was a punk. When we graduated I transferred to the Albertson’s in the Valley. It had just opened in Brownsville. They loved me, but I hated that job – hated the apron, hated the lottery machine, hated the same khaki uniform w/black shoes EVERY DAY (how I longed for Sundays when I could dress up for church), and hated dealing with angry, snotty people. I swear, I regularly wanted to pick up the lotto machine and hurl it against the wall smashing it into a million pieces (hear villainous laugh here)! I’m not sure what God was trying to teach me through that experience; but at the very least it made me REALLY ready to teach high school ESL! :) I loved teaching: I never even thought about quitting or what other job I’d like to have until we felt the call to come down here to Mexico. I know I’d like to teach again when we get back. But at least I know that restaurant work and retail-type work is NOT for me. ;) That was a pretty long rant about Albertson’s. Sorry to unload 10 years worth of pent-up angst in this way, but *whew!* it felt good. And no, I don´t blame you in any way for my experiences there; it just wasn’t a good fit for me and I needed to find that out. Made excellent material for stories to tell my kids one day, though! hugs.

Wow, I feel really stupid for forgetting that you worked at Albertsons too. :) Mommy brain!!!!! Sorry I probably hyped it up so much. It’s the same feeling I have when people tell me they didn’t like the movie I liked so much. Like, wow, am I dumb for liking it then? Then I shrug it off and decide that IT’S NOT WORTH WORRYING ABOUT. :) Must tell myself that more often. Robert, yes, a punk, but I had a soft spot for him. Lots of lost people in that place. And he always supported me when I needed him to. I still keep in touch with a few other Alb. employees, can you believe that?

Your ire towards that job reminds me of my ire towards most of my OTHER jobs. Ha! I can’t wait to tell my kids all about how waiting tables is the worst thing known to man.
